Move the music library WITH THE PLAYLISTS onto an external sd card to save space

Hello, I would like to save some space on my MacBook Air 2017 (Monterey) for school purposes. Thus, I thought that having an SD card with the music files stored in it would be a solution. I am aiming at having everything stored on the SD card and not on the Mac.

However I m worried about keeping the already existing playlists, which happened to have a lot of songs in it. I know the playlists are stored in the Music library file but I don't want to mess the process of recognizing the new location on the sd card (over 10000 songs)

I looked for it a little bit on internet and understood that I should change the path to the new storage folder and then consolidate files, which would copy everything in the new location (SD card). My questions are : is it the right thing to do ? After having all the files copied to the new folder, can I delete the one on my Mac without loosing the location path in the music app ?

Finally, once the files and pathway are working, how to set this new location (on the SD card) as the main one (not being the "consolidated one" with only the copies of songs).

Thanks in advance !

See Make a split library portable - Apple Community (particularly my comment at the bottom) and Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community. As long as both the .musiclibrary package and all the media is on the external drive the library should work when connected to a new computer. Clone the library to a second drive as a backup.
