Facebook images not loading on Mac Mini 2018

While facebook pages are visible, photos and videos fail to load. Often, though not always, in place of an image is a blurred white question mark in a blue square. It's been a couple of days by now. Reported the issue directly to fb without receiving a response so far. Have tried switching to Firefox instead of using Safari, but it did not make a difference. Clearing Safari's cache, uninstalling security software, rebooting several times all made no difference. The mandatory break from fb is refreshing, I admit, however, that the choice is my own would be preferred.
