Edit button missing on my photos in iPhone post iOS 18 update

I downloaded ios18 and now have no edit button on my photos in the gallery when I touch a photo. How do I get it back so I can use third party editing apps?

Yes, thanks Apple. You’ve hidden the editing tools. You’ve moved my albums so I have to scroll down endlessly to get to them. And even the order of recent photos has changed so that now I can’t find anything. WHY?!?!?!?

OK, guys, edit is sort of still around. The three lines, tap that, and it does appear down there where you can crop the picture, flip it, You can still put Text on a picture so agreed Tap on the three lines at the bottom. I left a crappy reply, saying I couldn’t find it and after reviewing again, I did find edit. It just doesn’t say edit. Three lines click there

This update is a total disaster I’m using iOS 18.2 (22C152) the edit option in photos is gone. I keep reading here to get to “markup” (sounds like the committee in congress getting ready to add 12 tons of pork to a bill) there is no longer an edit button the sliders are greyed out. It’s ruined my phone.

my photos are in an unhinged mess I can’t find anything without scrolling forever. Nothing is in any order even recently downloaded photos are not in any order it’s completely helterskelter

The people on the team that mangled this project need to be fired the people that approved it should be publicly humiliated and banned from the industry

I ONLY update my iPhone for security purposes now I think I’m going to stop doing even that. The baggage that comes with the security is not with it. Photos worked fine it should have been a separate optional update. Had I known what it was going to do I would have never downloaded the update.

suggestion. Make the updates individually available instead of a rat infested omnibus

id keep downloading the security updates but stop most everything else. You are making the simplicity of the iPhone completely unusable. The simple ability to add text to a photo and file and order system of photos was completely destroyed by some maniacal committee without my ok.

Just been playing around with the app and found the same problem But :

if you select an image then double tap on the 3 lines below the centre and the click on the crop button it will bring up the icon second in from top left !

This will allow you to rotate the image !

Once you are in the edit mode, tap the circle-with-three-dots in the upper right corner and select Extensions to get the list of third-party apps you have that are able to edit with the current Photos app.

No guarantee that any specific older app will still work, of course. They have the use the Extension interface these days. PS Express works, for example.

Thanks for this community as I never would have found the editing option. Dear Apple you need to do better. Take these option and enhancement ideas away from the developers and let them start with users. Developers are playing with . . Oh that would be cool ideas that do not help the user. For those reading and still looking for the editing Photo options, they are buried under the 3 sliding bars icon. Not all Apple users are GenZ and know this stuff intuitively.

They need to separate the security updates from the functionality updates. Let us pick. Keep the basic photo program they’ve always had and shove the genius ideas in the App Store. If everyone is downloading the app make it part of the software. 10 gen z beta testors in moms basement deciding what everyone gets is crazy

You need to unlock the edit function Click on the pic you working on.

then Tap quickly twice on the 3 lines again. If a little 🔒shows up on your screen top left corner then click on it🔒 and it should unlocked the edit function

Click on the photo you want to edit with the 3lines and then double click on them again (tap-tap) a little yellow heart 💛 will show on top of the 3 lines .. !! After that should be able to use the edit function.

Hope it helps 🍀
