What causes my MacBook Pro to restart after sleep?

  1. Close the lid of the MacBook Pro over night
  2. In the morning open the lid and the laptop restarts with displaying the debug report: Sleep/Wake hang detected @IOPMrootDomain.cpp:13000
  3. This is happening every morning after I upgraded to Sequoia OS.

Is there a fix?

I contacted Apple Support. After going through the usual steps (reinstalling macOS, resetting NVRAM/PRAM, SMC etc.), they assumed a hardware issue. I think this is quite unlikely and the checks will result in significant costs, as my 2019 MBP is no longer under warranty.

So for me the best solution is to disable standby. An other user had a similar issue with an Intel Mac: https://hexacera.com/posts/oclp-sonoma-sleep-wake-failure

You can check current System Wide Power Settings via Terminal:

pmset -g

To disable standby I used:

sudo pmset -a standby 0
