It feels like the 16 pro drains battery like crazy. Mine has gone from 95% to 81% in 38 minutes of light use and some picture taking. Phone also gets really hot when using the camera!
Anyone else experiencing this?
iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18
I got my phone on Monday 30th September (delivered at nearly 9pm) and it took me until the following day to transfer everything from my 14 Pro Max, so I didn't start using it properly until Tuesday 1st October. For 2 days, I experienced this issue (excessive battery drain) and I became particularly annoyed because my phone was seemingly permanently attached to a charger and the battery percentage wasn't going up. As of last night I was considering sending it back as other posts on here suggested that Apple support was reporting no issues with the phones even though almost everyone was experiencing the same fault.
I did notice that there is a software update available - and although it is just 18.0 by all accounts this update is just for new iPhone 16's (all variances). It says it's a security update but once installed, my battery life is significantly better - to the extent that at nearly 11.30am, it's at 91% and I've used it for work calls; listening to an audio book for 30 minutes and playing some games since 6.30am when I took it off a normal overnight charge.
Maybe it was the update or maybe something else (although I didn't do or change anything else in my normal phone usage/routine) but the battery drain issue seems to have been resolved.
The same is happening to me. My iphone 16 pro battery drains within no time. Charging it to 100% but It doesn’t even lasts for around 17-18 hours. I’m using it normally no gaming, less video streaming etc. yesterday charged my phone to 100%. One FaceTime call for around 1 hour and battery percentage gone below 75%. My iPhone 14 Pro battery health was around 87%, 100% charge lasts more than 24 hours with video streaming, browsing social media, listening music etc. But iPhone 16 pro being very new phone it is not the case. Battery drains so fast.
The performance, battery life and overall stability is far worse than my iPhone 14 Pro.
Apple must look into this.
Best is to return 16 pro. Worst of the Apple products I have used so far. I have a Genius Bar report stating that no misuse. Needs replacement ! Apple won’t replace it as bought from Currys . Currys won’t as I contacted Apple <30 days ( asked for proof etc - provided )and now it is just beyond 30 days.

A week ago I’ve posted about the crazy battery drainage on my brand new 16 Pro… I finally solved the problem… yesterday I’ve returned the 16 Pro to the Apple Store,
so now I’m back to my old 13 Pro and it’s fine.

This is true to me as well, I upgraded from a standard IPhone 13 with 85% battery life
This iPhone 16 pro that I’ve had for a week is draining much faster than my iPhone 13. At first it said it was because of the update that I will see it draining faster and then it will go back to normal, I only just got it I don’t know what normals supposed to look like, its such an expensive phone and doesn’t live up to anything, if I didn’t already sell my 13 id get rid of this thing

When I experienced my 16 Pro same battery issue described here, I just went to the apple store and returned the phone... end of problem,
Of course I had to return to my old 13Pro but at least I don't get frustrated with an unacceptable issue that Apple does not recognize,

My advice is return it- if they accept it. I trusted Apple support - I was told with update - it may improve and now they don’t want it back ! It is >2 months and battery is . It is still under warranty!

They have our hard earned money. Apple ain’t bothered about the battery issue. Mine is on 91% battery health now. Only had it 1 month from new. They now refuse to replace or refund so I’m not in the process of getting a chargeback from my credit card. Something is seriously wrong with this mobile.
That’s pretty close to normal for an iPhone. I’ve had iPhone Pro Maxes since the 12. Except for the last year I used to fly a lot and at max brightness I’d get 2 to 2 ½ hours out of a battery. iPhone 14 Pro Max was the worst of the bunch. My 16 Pro Max is among the best. Just my experience.
first time I’ve experienced in all my iphones that it drains so fast even if idle and not in use. I may understand that it can still use some energy even if not in use but this one is crazy. I slept 230am with my battery still at 23%. I woke up at 8am and my phone is already dead. When i looked at the battery stats, i found out it was already drained at around 7am. I turned of most of my apps with background refresh and only left the find my on. No apple intelligence too. This is crazy. I came from 15 pro max but now im so regretting upgrading to 16 pro even with no compelling features to upgrade. I only wanted a smaller lighter phone that's why i upgraded to 16pro. Now seriously thinking of switching to android for the first time. Ive been an iphone user since iphone 5 and upgrading almost every year. Disappointing! Apple should do something about this asap. Your products are not cheap and this is unacceptable.
Same with my 16 Pro. My iPhone 12 Pro I traded in was four years old and it was holding the battery better than this new one. I already disabled the always-on feature among other battery saving measures and still not making to the end of the day.
same thing i notice alot of random battery drain on my iPhone 16 pro max it never happened with my 13 pro max, so many times i wake up in the morning and my phone is totally dead even when i had over 20% battery left :s
I upgraded from iPhone 13 to 16 pro and the battery drain is driving me crazy. My old phone with 92% battery life lasted the same (or even longer) than my new 16 pro.
I contacted the support regarding the drain but they didn’t find anything suspicious with the battery (since I have the phone less than a week, they said to observe over the next two weeks, but each day I feel the battery is just going down even faster)
Yes i just buy 1 weeks ago im still using my old fone this i16 pro im using only some time but i noticed he draining battery very fast its a brand new fone i dont now whats the issue im very disappointed for this even my old iphone 7 is better than 16 pro battery very very disappointed afternoon time i charged 94% and now i checked he is on 89 % no usage nothing no wifi no anyother thing !
There’s nothing to address. Millions upon millions of iPhone 16 Pros aren’t having any issues. What steps have you taken to resolve the issue? You’ve taken your iPhone to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for diagnosis? Have you called Apple Support for remote diagnostics?
Exact same problem here had a 3 year old iPhone 13 that would make it to the end of the day at 20%.
my new iPhone 16 Pro was at 20% just after lunch. Never making it to the end of the day.
Performed all 11 battery tricks and now much better. 80% at lunch and 35% end of day.
Shouldn’t have to cripple the phone just to make it work as advertise, but it’s functional
