iPhone 16 pro battery draining fast

It feels like the 16 pro drains battery like crazy. Mine has gone from 95% to 81% in 38 minutes of light use and some picture taking. Phone also gets really hot when using the camera!

Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

I got my phone on Monday 30th September (delivered at nearly 9pm) and it took me until the following day to transfer everything from my 14 Pro Max, so I didn't start using it properly until Tuesday 1st October. For 2 days, I experienced this issue (excessive battery drain) and I became particularly annoyed because my phone was seemingly permanently attached to a charger and the battery percentage wasn't going up. As of last night I was considering sending it back as other posts on here suggested that Apple support was reporting no issues with the phones even though almost everyone was experiencing the same fault.

I did notice that there is a software update available - and although it is just 18.0 by all accounts this update is just for new iPhone 16's (all variances). It says it's a security update but once installed, my battery life is significantly better - to the extent that at nearly 11.30am, it's at 91% and I've used it for work calls; listening to an audio book for 30 minutes and playing some games since 6.30am when I took it off a normal overnight charge.

Maybe it was the update or maybe something else (although I didn't do or change anything else in my normal phone usage/routine) but the battery drain issue seems to have been resolved.

Is the iPhone 16 pro , battery crazy fast drain gonna be solved soon???
it is the worst battery I ever used.
I’ve bought My device only 2 weeks ago.!
what can u do, apple?

Hello there,

You have 14 days to return your device for a refund. I’d suggest you get onto that asap.

Not sure if it’s at the Store’s discretion to do the refund if it’s 15 or even 16 days after purchase… Any input Jeff Donald if you see this?

I’m in the same exact situation. I had the 13 Pro Max and decided to get the 16 pro. I had the pro for about a week and returned it and went back to my 13 Pro Max. The battery was atrocious if I would charge it all night I’d get up. Use it for about six hours throughout the day. Come home And have like 30% battery life left now with the 13 Pro Max. I’d have about 70% battery life left maybe 60.

These "tips" from Apple are unfortunately not helpful. I upgraded from iPhone 14 to 16 pro, 16 is supposed to have better battery life but it is worse out of the box (like many other users reports on). I went from 80% battery on my 14 to 100% on my 16 pro and have worse battery capacity now. A bit of google maps and no social media, and it is down to 10% by dinner time.

A brand new phone user with a brand new fresh battery should not have to sit and adjust screen brightness to 5% or have their phone in low battery mode all day. These phones came advertised with "better battery life" and they are worse than previous phones.

It might well be a problem with iOS 18 which has been a quite daunting iOS to be honest since it is riddled with bugs and has barely no new usable features. I even have Apple Intelligence completely turned off by now.

I have reported this to Apple, in the meantime we can vent in this thread and maybe they are aware.

Yes, the health app. Medications was causing a black screen every other day first. I reported the widespread bug others had. Black screen now fixed (was not my phone was once again the software in the phone). Now it misses logged medications, I have reported this also. Maybe next year it will work? It seems to be syncing issues with iCloud as it is stored there.

Battery drain is real, are you not reading this thread, it is quite long and extensive?

Siri either stops from taking requests or takes requests and does nothing, restart only way to get her back. Widespread issue with software as it does not relate to just my phone, google and you will find.

RCS messages sometimes does not go through or gets massively delayed to my wife's phone when we are in a group chat with Android users, she has it set to on. She has iPhone 16 Pro Max, problem comes and goes. Can be network possibly, maybe it's not Apple.

Lagging and freezing can indeed be a local problem, but should be fixed regardless... Just because you do not see these problems they are not existing for the rest of the worlds iOS 18 users.

All I can say is that iOS18 is more buggy than iOS17, that is my perception of it. Obviously not yours.

I can see your point about heavy social media usage and complaining. That user is luckily not me.

Here is my battery usage..

The only social media I use is pretty much Reddit..

Now this does not reflect the time when I needed to have battery the most, when I was in Japan for 2 weeks just using a bit of Safari and Google maps during the day to get around + sometimes I checked our security cameras at home but I had all notifications for them turned off + background activity. I had about 15% left of my battery by 5pm already and then I had it in low battery mode all day. This baffles me that I can not use a brand new phone which is advertised as having better battery than the previous phones.

Is there a way to see usage more than 10 days back, then I could give you better data.

It was as bad or worse than my iPhone 14 that had more degration of the battery. I thought this was supposed to be an upgrade from the older phones. Apple claims 2 hours more video playback per day? If not iOS 18 is draining of course.
