Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Having issue on my iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb when launching camera control from Lock Screen it’s crashing the camera app. Screen turns black and crashing. Also phone seems to be getting abnormally hot when playing games or recoding video for a short period of time. Anyone else experiencing these issues and wondering if it’s a software or hardware issue.

Worked with Apple Support. We tried reapplying the latest upgrade via my Mac and the phone in restore mode. Problem persisted a couple days later. I was advised the next step was to completely wipe the phone and reinstall everything from scratch, not from backup, as the culprit is likely somewhere in my backup. I did that over the weekend, took about 8 hours. It's been two days without the issue returning. I will continue to monitor.

I’m wondering if not as much the camera, as the photo gallery software update? I’m have major problems with this , and the software coding may be affecting the camera? Anyone else?

No. They are completely unrelated. I've gotten used to the Photos app and am actually learning to like it. But it has nothing to do with the camera app.

I am having the same issue, this is really bad, can’t take pictures, also the whole phone responsiveness is bad as well. Seems like every company is doing innovation and apple is moving backwards, this is the worst user experience I ever had, can’t believe it’s a 1200 USD phone and this many issues. Please fix it with a software update asap, Iphone is on ios 18.0.1

This is the first iPhone I ever used that’s got a bug in it. I think there’s something fundamentally wrong somewhere. Perhaps Apple is not paying much attention to its recruitment process anymore. I mean, it’s used to be crystal perfect With any Apple products you use it out of the box and you are rest assured it’s gonna do what you need it to do. This needs to be fixed as soon as possible else lots of people are gonna dump this products sooner rather than later.

I too have exactly same issue with my new iphone 16 Pro max 256GB. The camera app crashes when its opened from Camera Control & try to click a pic. And phone becones too hot. There is another issue that microphone becomes unresponsive at that time. All excitement of new iPhone vanished within 3weeks of purchasing. Apple, is there anyone listening????? Please test new devices rigorously before marketing. My iPhone 12 Pro Max never faced any issue

I’m too having exactly same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB. The camera app crashes when opened either from Camera Control or from App. It crashes & shuts when try taking a picture. At the same time phone becomes unreasonably hot without usage & microphone too stops working for calls. Restarting resolves it temporarily but issue pops up again & again. I hope Apple Team is listening. Its very annoying these problems with just 3 weeks into purchase. :-(

Same problem here, 16 Pro Max 1TB.

It also randomly stops recording, sometimes without playing a sound.

It also will sometimes start recording and then immediately stop recording. No errors, no rhyme or reason, restart doesn't fix it. It will just randomly start working again.

This phone has been the biggest disappointment apple has sold me to date.
