iPad 1 ios5.1.1 can’t connect to setup.iCloud.com

When trying to reenter my iCloud password, I receive an error that Verification Failed due to the certificate for the server is invalid (setup.iCloud.com). I tried resetting and reinstalling and then when I try to connect to connect to my iCloud account, it says server not found. This all started in mid September or so. Is that connection no longer viable (server retired)?

That iPad 1st gen (2010) with iOS 5 is well below the minimum required versions for access to iCloud.

The minimum version required is iOS 10, or later depending on the feature:

I wouldn’t expect iOS 5 to be able to connect to much of anything on the network.

Few if any apps will support that far back, as that iPsd is 32-bit.

Troubleshooting “iPad 1 ios5.1.1 can’t connect to setup.iCloud.com” Error:

Turn Off VPNs:

Are you using a VPN? If so, turn it off. That should do the trick.

Unless required for work or school, trash all VPNs and refrain from using them. They just get in the way on Apple devices, and this is a pure example of how and why.
