Can HomePod be locked by an apple account.

I recently sold my HomePod to a mail-in company, and they are now claiming that it is locked to my Apple account. I have informed them that the device is not listed under “Find My Device,” “Home,” or on apple.com under my devices. I have also explained that they should be able to reset the HomePod by following the standard reset procedure. However, they insist that I need to remove it from apple first

I have a couple of questions regarding the security features and reset procedures for HomePods:

  1. HomePod Security: I understand that HomePods do not have activation locks like iPhones and iPads, making it impossible to lock them down using the Find My Device feature. Could you please confirm if this is correct?
  2. Reset Procedure: If a HomePod needs to be reset, my understanding is that this can be done by powering off the device, then holding the top button until Siri announces that the device will reset after three beeps. Could you confirm if this is the correct method

Can someone confirm my 2 points.

Yes to point 1. From Reset HomePod or HomePod mini - Apple Support:

Manual reset procedure:

  1. Unplug HomePod or unplug the power adapter for HomePod mini, wait 10 seconds, then plug HomePod back in.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then touch and hold your finger on the top of HomePod.
  3. The white spinning light will turn red. Keep your finger down.
  4. Siri will say your HomePod is about to reset. When you hear three beeps, you can lift your finger.

You should also use the Remove Accessory option for the device if it still appears in your Home app.
