Or this Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support
I assuming you're backing up an iphone or ipad to icloud, cuz you don't on a MAC.
Or are you syncing to a different computer than you normally use Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support

Sorry icloud backup doesn't delete pictures, it backups up your data not delete.
Perhaps explain a little bit more what you mean by Finder.
