Inherrited Macbook but can't login

My uncle who was a computer geek recently passed away and as his only living relative left, I inherrited his estate and amoung his belogings , inherrited his macbook. I have no idea what model or serial number and was wondering how or what are my options to gain access to his old mac? Is there a secret manufacturer code I can initiate at boot up or thirdf party software I can use on a usb stick I could use? I don't even have the OS software to try and reload. Am I just out of luck or is there something I can do? and how much? Thanks in advance for your response.

Yes, there is , ibkuromi, and it may be free.. if you can’t login to your Mac, assuming it’s Intel… you’d have to book

t into the Recovery partition ( Mac Lion 10.7 or Later) earlier than that, you’d have to boot up from the original software/install DVD’s that came with your uncle’s MacBook originally. If you don’t have them/can’t find them.. then you’d have to buy a retail copy of Snow Leopard ( 10.6.3) and use that for bootup/ resetting the login password. The model/serial number of your late uncle’s MacBook is somewhere on the outside case, if it has a removable battery, it’ll be under that… if you’re really really stumped, go to EveryMac.com as they have data and specs for every Mac ever made, hence the title… I just checked on eBay and a retail dvd of Snow Leopard is around $50-ish with shippping… I don’t know what model and year your late uncle’s MacBook is, so can’t help you much more… if you think you have Lion on it, restart, holding down the Apple+R buttons together( assuming your MacBook works OK.. you should see a language screen, pick one and continue… move your cursor ( the arrow) to the top centre of your screen and click.. you should see Mac OS X tools.. from there, Terminal, get that going… type in

resetpassword

just like that, press the enter/return key on your keyboard and it ‘ll take you to the main Admin/Login/Root password reset application

hope this helps
