I do not have a subscription to Apple Music. I have downloaded free songs from Freegal to Apple Music, all legally and legit. Now how do I backup those songs? Thank you!

A regular iCloud or local (on a Mac or Windows PC) iPhone backup would be fine.
All app data, not synched to iCloud (Contacts, Calendar...), are part of an iCloud back, regardless of subscriptions. A local backup would back up everything regardless of the iCloud synchronization, again regardless of subscriptions.
