Mail issues on Mac re reply to emails

Mac operating Ventura 13.1. Recently I am unable to reply to emails on Mail using the "reply" buttons. The incoming message is seen but when replying the expected new message window opens, complete with headers but the original message text is not visible nor can I add my response as new text. The data is still there for if I save the reply as "Draft" it appears in Draft files, in full, but again cannot edit or add response. Any thoughts? The same occurs if I try to "Forward"

You may want to try updating from MacOS Ventura 13.1 : (NB: It is wise to back up your data before updating)

What's new in the updates for macOS Ventura - Apple Support says MacOS 13.7 is the latest Ventura update.

Else:

If you are already using MacOS 13.7: Try quitting the Mail app, then restart your Mac (Apple menu > Restart)

Log back in, open Mail, and check to see if the reply and forward issues are solved.

(ie: Restarting your Mac deletes temporary files, re-establishes connections, may update recent setting changes, and more ... will often restore order if something is not working as expected.)
