typing enters backwards

in numbers 14.2 & macOS Sonoma 14.5 on a Mac mini M2, what I type into a cell is displayed backwards, that is the IP remains on the left, when typing into a formula the IP moves with the entered characters, BUT, if a cell is clicked to add it to the formula, that cell is displayed twice (separated by +). Formula G1+G2 (manipulation required to appear correctly), where G1=23 and G2=1, results in 24 even though 23 was entered as 32.
