Mail App not updating

My mail app will not refresh. I’ve deleted the account and readded it in the settings, i’ve turned it on the mail settings as well. it says i have 7 notifications but when i go to the mail app it says no mail and at the bottom it says “The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.” but i have the correct info and i’ve done everything. my phone is up to date and ive restarted it multiple times.
