FCP, Compressor and QT Player won't play audio on .avi videos converted to .mp4/AAC?

I regularly use Movavi Video Converter to convert videos to .mp4.

Last night I converted a bunch of very old TV programs from .avi to .mp4/AAC.

This morning I discovered that in QT Player/Compressor/FCP there was no audio output but the sound was perfect in VLC and Handbrake.

It appears that QT Player and co don't like .avi even when converted to .mp4

Is this correct and if so how should I convert them so that QT will play the audio?

Mac mini, macOS 14.6

The files are too large to upload but I think there may have been some peculiarity with the batch of videos I converted as they play perfectly in VLC and also from an HDD plugged into my TV which was the intended destination.

I did one test conversion in HandBrake and that plays perfectly using QT so the problem must lie somewhere in the Movavi converter.

Very strange but as I am unlikely to ever use .avi again I will forget about it!
