CleanMyMac causes FCP X to crash

CleanMyMac causes problems with everything including your system. It is the worst piece of software you could put on your computer and should be removed with the provided uninstaller. Even then you may find that it will not want to remove itself entirely and will need additional assistance to get ride of it. We are here to help with any follow up.

SetApp is just a collection of low quality apps, where you will also find many that will give you problems. Personally, I would consider the interaction with those apps on your computer as suspicious. Most will install files that launch on startup and continue to run on your computer including SetApp processes in your Launch folders.

Cleanmymac is utter garbage, I consider it malware, and I am not alone.

The very notion that your mac needs a third party app to "clean" or "optimize it" is but a scam to separate wary users from their money. And to make matters worse, it does not just not help, it actually can thrash your system.

Removing cache files is self-defeating. They exist to speed up commonly called routines and data. Removing them only succeeds in slowing everything down until the cache data is recreated.

Also, a word about SetApp.

It seems to an aggregator site/app to distribute mac applications.

I often read many posts on sites like medium that are badly disguised adverts for SetApp, purporting to show how great several applications "that I first install on all my macs" are. And of course they are all distributed via SetApp.

It does not pass the smell test for me.

simply starting your Mac in Safe Mode tests and cleans up, if needed.

You can also (although, as Kurt noted, problably you don't need and shouldn't) delete some of them manually.

They're in ~/Library/Caches.

There may be caches from apps that you no longer use or have; but I'd just leave them be unless they baloon to a huge size. At present, this whole folder on my mac is less than 1GB, not really worth messing with.

To confirm everything is deleted, I can recommend using the free EtreCheck app, which will show you if there is any lingering files in the Launch folders as well as the Extensions folder. You can either review the report yourself or post it here using the Additional Text option where there are many users who know exactly what to look for. EtreCheck was developed by a fellow user here and is commonly used to see what is being run on startup.

Exactly the same for me! I was in a hurry to do this stupid thing with the cleanmymac5 update on both macs that I had a 2-computer subscription to. Now I can't open any FINAL CUT PROGRAM. I reinstalled them and on startup they give me the report page. I feel like I've taken a big hit and on top of that I have video projects going on. I deleted everything related to CLEANMYMAC and reinstalled them again. I hope it works this time.

Mine is currently 2.5 GB, the vast majority of which is created by Adobe at 1.3 GB.

Mine is 613.3 MB but I have only been using the computer for a year.

Did you migrate the user?

I wish the forum supported pinning threads so this one could serve as a warning to others considering installing CMM.

I've had the same experience.

CleanMyMac is: 1-Unnecessary for macOS (but that sort of thing is needed on a. Windows system), and 2-PURE EVIL! I've known student and client who lost data because of CleanMyMac and apps like it.
