"Break Apart Clip Items" no longer works on synchronized clips within the timeline?

Running Final Cut 10.8.1 on Sequoia 15.0.1, 2023 M2 Max MacBook Pro.

I usually edit using synchronized clips, with multiple audio tracks from multiple mics synced with each video file. When the edit is pretty much locked in and I'm ready to finalize sound mixing, color correction, and effects, I use "break apart clip items" on each synchronized clip within the timeline. Then I can make changes to each individual audio track, and the original video file, with the timing of my edits still intact.

In the last couple weeks, dunno if it was the recent Final Cut update or updating to Sequoia, but "Break Apart Clip Items" is consistently greyed out and unavailable for synchronized clips. "Expand Audio," "Expand Audio Components," and "Detach Audio" don't really help much either, as I'm still just getting one audio track which is actually multiple files synced together.

Is this a bug, or is there some new process for working with synchronized clips that I'm not aware of? This is messing up my whole workflow, and I'm kinda stuck on a few projects that I've been editing for weeks with synchronized clips that are ready for sound mixing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Sure, thanks! First screenshot shows the issue I'm having - ordinarily I would just highlight the synchronized clip within the timeline, go up to the "Clip" menu, and hit "Break Apart Clip Items." This function is no longer available for me. It's not just one clip, it's not just one project, and I've actually tried it on two separate computers. Across the board, "Break Apart Clip Items" is greyed out and no longer works like it used to.

For reference, the second screenshot shows a past project where I was able to use "Break Apart Clip Items" on a timeline full of synchronized clips. This is what I'm trying to achieve - I edited the whole project using synchronized clips, and then broke them apart, replacing the synchronized clips with the original video and audio files I'd synchronized together, with the timing of the edits remaining intact. I do my sound-mixing and color correction after breaking the synced clips apart.

My workflow was exactly the same for both projects, same camera, same video format, same audio format, same process of editing with synchronized clips. I just can't seem to break the clips apart anymore, since recent updates in the past couple weeks. Any ideas would be appreciated.

They're all "problem clips" now, unfortunately, this is a general problem with being unable to break apart synchronized clips as I always could in the past.

So if I double-click, it opens up the entire synchronized clip, i.e. the full length of video and audio synced together. If I make changes here, it makes changes to the synchronized clip itself, in all projects and all uses within this library. I suppose I could keyframe the specific parts used within the edit, but it'd be a pain to work this way.

In the past, "Break Apart Clip Items" would simply break apart the small section of the synchronized clip cut within the timeline, and allow me to edit the separate video and audio tracks used within the timeline, without affecting the synchronized clip as a whole. As seen in the second screenshot on my last post. It never involved double-clicking and making changes to the synchronized clip itself, except in cases where the automatic sync didn't work properly and I had to line the audio up manually.

Does that make sense? It's possible my workflow is unusual, but editing with synchronized clips and then using "Break Apart Clip Items" always worked great for my purposes in the past, and within the last two weeks, it suddenly no longer works.
