Is it possible to download torrents on a Mac without issues?

I got a Mac to try and installed a torrent app, but it keeps showing this message:  https://www.bittorrent.com/en/support/solutions/articles/29000034450--will-damage-your-computer-you-should-move-it-to-the-trash-/. I can’t seem to fix it.

Are there any other torrent apps that work without issues?

Thanks!

You can get practically every major Linux release in one place without the need for a torrent.

Or here, where they're all available as an .iso image.

False. "Usually" is too strong of a word for a single use case. Plain and simple, if you are downloading any these to your computer from a torrent site, you are getting Malware. These companies may offer their products for download on their official website, but it is NEVER as a Torrent.

  • Microsoft
  • Adobe
  • Apple
  • Any music.
  • Any other third party application that runs on MacOS.

The torrents are filled with this type of Malware and it is not the particular app that you are using to download. You can expect every torrent to contain Malware and cause a popup just like that with a different name being mentioned. That is actually the most benign thing you will find with those files. Scammers use Torrents because it is the simplest way to get their files on your computer. It's like waving a candy bar in front of a child and seeing if they will take it.

I believe there may be some sites that use torrents for legitimate applications (distributing their own software).

However, many torrent sites feature pirated stuff. This may be loaded with malware, much like if you let your child do "trick or treating" at the house of someone who was known to have given children poisoned candy, and apples complete with a little extra "iron" in the form of embedded razor blades.

Using a perfectly safe application to visit these sites and download these contents would be like using a car that had excellent crash-safety ratings to drive to the most crime-ridden parts of town in the middle of the night …

Torrents are usually used for legitimate purposes, not for pirated software. Many larger open source software (e.g. entire Linux distro installation disk images) are distributed using torrents in addition to providing a direct download (DDL) link on the official website. In many cases, it will be faster to use the torrent to download the software, since the files can be distributed in a decentralized manner. The integrity of the downloaded file can be checked simply by verifying the file checksum with the one provided on the official website. qBittorrent is an open-source torrent client which I use on Mac, and I would recommend using it.
