My printer works for awhile and then disconnects from my network, so I need to re-enter the passcode to re-connect. This is a random event. Works fine for days with my phone, laptop, ipad, then will suddenly disconnect. What can I do. Do you think a static IP address would help??? I am not at all technical.

A static IP address does help with making it easier for network clients to "find" this printer.
However, I'm trying to understand your post. Are you saying that this printer disconnects from your local wireless network randomly? That is, you need to enter the passcode from the printer's administrator panel to reconnect to the network each time it disconnects ... correct?
If that is the case, then the issue may be where the printer is located may be such that it cannot maintain a consistent connection. Where is your wireless router located in relation to this printer ... same room, different room, or on another floor?
