Unable to install macOS on MacBook Air 2010

I have a 2010 MacBook Air that doesn’t have an operating system installed. I already tried installing an operating system but it won’t let me it says an error occurred. I’ve tried different ways to install the operating system, but it still says error occurred.

A 2010 MacBook Air would have shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) – and could be updated to High Sierra, but nothing later than that.

I believe that Snow Leopard predated Internet Recovery, and many Macs that came with Snow Leopard (or earlier) would have come with a set of recovery discs for reinstalling the operating system if needed. Since the MacBook Air does not have a built-in optical drive, I'm not sure if Apple would have said (in effect) "here are recovery discs; buy an external drive if you need to use them"; or if the MacBook Air would have had another recovery mechanism.
