I believe long ago,the predecessor or Apple Music (iTunes) would automatically highlight the played track in the tracklist. Then there was Command-L to get to the played track.
Now Command-L in the tracklist takes you to a separate window in the artist's album.
Is there any settings to get the expected result? Stay in the list we're in.

Last time I experimented with it, it seems that as long as the playlist you are playing from is set for View > As Songs, then CMD-L will have the expected behavior. See if that works for you.

Yes, you are correct. I tried it here on Music 1.4.6.32, and when playing from the overall Songs list, CMD-L does have that peculiar behavior. It only works properly when you are playing from a specific playlist.
Unfortunateley there is no such option for the "Tracks" main window, the one where all your tracks are.
