iPhone 11 Pro Max showing iOS 17.7.2 as 21GB and System Data as 8GB in iPhone Storage

Hi all

After recently updating my iPhone 11 Pro Max to 17.7.2 (from 17.7.1) via OTA (which I never normally do as I prefer to use Finder) I appear to have lost all my phone storage with the update showing as taking up over 20Gb space, while system data is 8Gb.

Im pretty sure this is exorbitant and should be nowhere near this size.

Any ideas how to get it trimmed back?

Many thanks

I cant seem to find any way to handle this.

My flatmate is running iOS 17.6 on his iPhone and the iOS is half the size!!

I know the System Data can apparently go up/down but I'm pretty sure that main iOS shouldn't be anything like this size.

I'm at a loss, short of wiping the phone and restoring it, but of course that will then also update to iOS 18 which I'm not entirely convinced I'm ready for just yet.

Or is there a way to entirely wipe the whole thing including iOS and restoring but keeping it at 17.7.2 ?

Many thanks
