Why is my iPhone unable to determine if camera is a genuine part?

Unable to determine if your iPhone camera is a genuine Apple part. Go to Settings for more information.

That message means either that

  • Your phone has been repaired with parts not provided by Apple ("non-genuine parts"), or
  • Your phone has Apple parts installed, but there is some problem preventing the phone from verifying that they are genuine Apple parts. (This may indicate a hardware problem.)


If you know that the camera is a genuine one, but you get the message anyway, that may be a indication that you should make an appointment to have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider look at it.

"You'll see an Unknown message if the camera installation is incomplete or if the camera:

    • Was replaced with a nongenuine camera
    • Isn't functioning as expected"
