the operation couldn't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission.

I continually get this "the operation couldn't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission." It is my computer, ever since I updated to Sequoia, I seem to have no permissions. How do I get rid of that and get my read and write permissions back again? I did not change anything. Thank you for any help.

Where are you trying to change permissions? The root level of the hard drive has been locked down since Catalina. The only place you really have full permission to do. Anything is in your home folder.

When I click on an app and go to "get info" It tells me the system is the only one that has permissions. My name "Margit Bakke" always was there at the top and I could change items, now I cannot even add myself. See attachment where my name was always there, and now it is not and I cannot put it there. It said it was changed on November 14, 2024 when I downloaded Sequoia. I will send another post with what it tells me. Thank you for replying. Margit

This is what it says for Preview app and any other app that I have when I want to add myself no matter how I try to do it. I have been using mac computers for 30+ years and have not run across this before. If I try to have another app open a picture etc, it tells mee the same thing. Total frustration on my part. Thank you for reading my issue. Margit
