Big Problems after update to macOS Sequoia

First: I'm a German and my English is not as perfect as I want. So please be gracious with your answers.

I used to use macOS Mojave (10.15.6) until the last days of October. But I had big problems with the "old" Safari and newer websites. Sometimes they even didn't open. I also used QuickTime Pro for video editing.

But I had to chose, wether I'll be up-to-date in the web or not. So I decided to update my iMac to Sequoia (Yeah, I now think I was a fool, updating from Mojave directly to Sequoia).

But now I have big problems, starting from strange behavior of my iCloud Drive (only from my iMac, not from my MacBook Air!) and endig with beachballing in the apps Pages and Numbers (other Apple apps I didn't test) and LibreOffice (7.1.4.2).

Maybe there was great change in some organizational structures inside the OS or some apps, maybe some "orphans", which were not deleted or transferred. This are only guesses.

I can't provide screen shots, every time I tried, I get beachballing. So I will try it with words:

In the sidebar of a finder window I have a circular diagram right beside the iCloud Drive description. WhenI put the mouse-pointer over this circular diagram it turned into a "i" within a circle. After clicking in the info sign, I see two starting (and never ending) file-moving processes, one uploading and one downloading. Beneath the downloading bar is written: 0 KB from 1 Byte and beneath the other (uploading) proceeding bar is written: 0 KB from 418 KB.

Furthermore I have some strange symbols inside Downloads- and the Preview Folders inside the iCloud Drive: Cloud symbols with a call mark within the cloud.

I hope that someone of you can held me.

Regards

Andreas

Hi Tesserax, I will only say, that now all is fine with my Mac.

I had a long conversation with a nice guy from Apple support and he could help me with the problem.

The error was in a probably hidden file in my user folder, maybe because I updated from Mojave to Sequoia. This step seemed to be too big. I created a new user account on my iMac and from then on all went fine. But it was a lot of work to get all the files and folders from the old account to the new one. The last step was to download the latest macOS and to install it.

Now all seems to be perfect. I just wanted to tell you this "end of the story".

Thank you for all your suggestions and help. It is good to know, that there is always someone, who can help.

Greetings

Andreas

Loops... Moderator edited my last post. He deleted the Terminal response to the traceroute command because of personal information. I'll try to circumvent this now (second try).

traceroute to e4478.dscb.akamaiedge.net (23.215.23.119), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

 1  fritz.box (192.168.178.1)  2.865 ms  2.195 ms  2.531 ms

 2  p3e9bf21c.dip0.t-ipconnect.de (62.155.242.28)  10.180 ms  9.726 ms  10.219 ms

 3  f-eh4-i.f.de.net.dtag.de (217.5.109.98)  18.158 ms

    f-eh4-i.f.de.net.dtag.de (217.5.109.94)  18.026 ms

    f-eh4-i.f.de.net.dtag.de (217.5.109.98)  18.137 ms

4  80.157.202.149 (80.157.202.149)  47.995 ms  41.755 ms  64.355 ms

 5  192.168.192.171 (192.168.192.171)  15.702 ms

    192.168.192.141 (192.168.192.141)  16.821 ms

    192.168.192.151 (192.168.192.151)  16.801 ms

 6  192.168.197.3 (192.168.197.3)  16.792 ms  16.788 ms

    192.168.194.135 (192.168.194.135)  17.051 ms

 7  192.168.210.145 (192.168.210.145)  16.793 ms  16.802 ms  17.016 ms

Then "empty" hops from 8 to 64 with three * in the row, every hop lasting about 15 seconds.

Again, this is not something I have seen before. Hops with private IP addresses would only be possible if the router, at that point, has a private IP address, and should not be reachable over the Internet.

What we want to see is that the overall round trip time from the 1st to the last (destination) to be under 50ms for an ideal connection. It could be more, but shouldn't be more than 150ms.

The PingPlotter link I provided you gives you some examples of common network problems that the traceroute can uncover ... but, none of these, represents your findings.

At this point, I'm at a loss on how to get this resolved for you. I'd start with your ISP, especially if they have provided you with your Fritzbox network gateway. I's also have them come out to your location to test the line between your location and their service.

Hi, sorry for being late, yesterday evening I had other things to do. Yes you were right: My Mac is wireless connected to my AirPort Extreme (it's the tall one with latest software, version 7.9.1). This AirPort Extreme is connected to my FritzBox 7362 SL by cable. The FritzBox WLAN is not active (!).

About 2 week ago all went fine with these settings.

Shall I reset the FritzBox?

When I do open the AirPort Utility and then click on the "Extreme", I can see the IP Adress of the Extreme, see picture:

Then I click on "Bearbeiten" (Edit) in the right lower corner and see this:

When I go to "Internet", one can see the IP-adress of the "Extreme" again and the IP-adress of the Router (192.168.178.1) and the Domain name: "fritz.box":

Under "Netzwerk" (network) I can See, that the "Extreme" is working like a Bridge, the Router-Modus is "off".

Look:

And the FritzBox is definitely not working as a wireless base:

I can re-connect the FritzBox to the internet after shortly shutting this connection down. Maybe I will get a new IP-adress and a new IPv6 prefix from my ISP. This possibility is given inside the FritzBox GUI under the point "Online-Monitor".

Since I bought the AirPort Extreme and the DSL I never changed any settings in both devices, Extreme and FritzBox!

This is the reason, that I thought, that the update to Sequoia is the "culprit" of the problems, I have.
