iOS 18.2 Heating issues and battery drain

I have had 3 issues, and here's what I have found so far:

• apps that struggle to scroll and seem unresponsive - this seems to be a widespread issue affecting apps that use webview controls. I have seen a lot of discussion in the Flutter dev community about this, so it may be specific to apps built with Flutter. Anyway, its a real problem that will require either an OS update or app updates.
• double-click not opening Apple Pay. Not sure what is going on with this. I can turn it off, reboot, turn it back on, and it may work for a bit, but then stops working again. Very annoying as I use Apple Pay all the time.
• the battery issue. I have deleted half my apps, that helped a bit. I also removed my corporate VPN settings, rebooted, and added them back; that also seemed to help a bit. But I am still only getting half a day. One thing I noticed is that under Apple Intelligence in Settings, it shows as "Downloading", and that doesn't change. Perhaps that is a clue.

Update

My battery drain issue is finally resolved! After some research, I learned that it’s common to experience initial battery drain following an iOS update. This is often due to internal processes like system updates and storage indexing, which can continue for up to 48 hours after the update is installed.

Note that for the first 24-48 hours after installing an iOS update, your phone will use more battery than usual as it needs to rebuild several internal databases.

Going to try and restart my phone now

I went to the Apple Store and they found no issues with my phone, it actually stopped overheating but found some app updates were needed after finding an app that was using a lot of the battery.

So, please show the list of apps underneath the two bar graphs. The graphs are meaningless with context as to what apps are using all your battery capacity. Here’s mine,

Note using any mapping app - Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze - uses a lot of battery and data as the phone constantly updates its GPS location and has to download new map data continuously.

If you are streaming music that also is a constant data stream, and if you only have one or two bars of signal either/both can consume a lot of power.

My phone is still heating up and stops charging at 80% (the temperature gets too high)

I have turned off Apple intelligence and it is still having the same problem.

It is the new update that is causing this issue.

I’m struggling with overheating to on my iPhone 14 which don’t have ai so it’s nothing to do with that but that’s the only thing I’m having issues with other then that this update is very smooth battery life is great everything runs pretty smooth for the most part and this was a big update to so the fact that it’s as smooth as it is kinda surprises me

If your phone turned off, your battery likely needs to be replaced.

How old is your battery? What model iPhone? What is your battery health?
