Trash icon in Sequoia dock turned white

The Trash icon in my dock has suddenly turned white and very hard to see against the white dock background. I am running Sequoia 15.2 on a M2 MacBook Pro.

Before this happened I added a new folder to the dock, right to the left of the Trash icon. I haven’t installed anything recently. The Trash operates normally. I’ve searched for answers and haven’t found an anything that works. I did try downloading a free trash icon from a website and copying and pasting it onto the Trash Get Info window, but that didn’t work. Also tried restarting.

I really want the regular default icon back, but how?

Well, worst case, you could just nuke the dock and "factory reset" it to it's default setting from the Terminal using the command below. You should probably screenshot your desktop first though, since you will lose all your customizations (apps added to the dock, or removed from them, and so on - it will be a dock like on a newly set up Mac).

defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock
