Deleting DMG files after installation on Mac
trying to reduce size and number of files in Downloaded folder.
Once I open and instal item from dmg files do I need to keep the dmg file or can I delete it?

Up to you. If a given DMG was easy to download, from a reliable source so you can reasonably expect to be able to download it again should you need to reinstall (or uninstall), then you can delete it. If it was difficult or you suspect it might not be available in the future, I'd suggest keeping it. You can alway copy it off to external media for archiving so you save space on your main storage.
