iCloud folder not freeing up space on Mac's internal storage

Please can someone help here


my macbooks storage is full, so i have paid for extra iCloud soace and sent my documents/downloads from my desktop to my icloud folder in my finder, but it still says my internal mac storage is full.


its driving me insane can anyone help?

As muguy suggested, I have a very small 2TB SSD that I carry around with my MacBook. It's really quite convenient.


It looks like you are running Ventura, is that right?


In Sequoia, it has become possible to designate some of the files in iCloud Drive to be kept only in iCloud until you request them.

Other files can be marked to never be removed.


You might want to move to Sequoia.

Anything in iCloud is also on your Mac. You can elect to optimize storage which will offload some items from your Mac to iCloud only status should space become needed on your device. iCloud itself is not offline storage but a synchronization service.
