How can i get my scanner to locate a working TWAIN data source?

Hi,

I have an old, but awesome Epson Perfection 3170 Photo scanner that I’m trying to get to work with Ventura, to no avail. I’ve downloaded Epson’s driver for image capture, and I’ve tried to access the scanner through image capture with no luck. It just gives me the “failed to connect to device -21345 error”.

I have also tried downloading VueScan, but when I click to open it, the rainbow wheel just spins indefinitely, and I have to force quit out of the app every time. I’ve tried to erase it and re-upload and it still happens.

The computer can recognize the scanner in system settings and hardware, under printer in settings, and the scanner itself works fine. It’s simply when I go into TWAIN data sources in the folder for the scanner, there’s nothing there. I also have an old iMac with Mountain Lion on it 10.8.5 and I’ve also had issues getting it to scan there as well. Has anyone had any luck fixing this issue?

Hamrick (VueScan) can do nothing about the failure of an Epson scanner driver to work. Reach out to Epson about their driver issue and ask them for a resolution. VueScan expects a working Epson scanner driver for the 3170 device.

Once you have Apple's Image capture working with the Epson driver, and if VueScan does not work, then contact the VueScan vendor.
