How do I connect Apple TV to my Vizio M60-C3?

We moved our Vizio tv to the basement and want to connect it to the Apple tv device that we had been using with a Sony Bravia. Which hdmi on the Vizio should it be connected to?

The Vizio M60-C3 from 2015 would have 5× HDMI: 2× HDMI 1.4 port, and 3× HDMI 2.0 port, one of them (port 1) has ARC (intended for connecting to an audio system). One site mentions 1 HDMI port capable of 4K 60 Hz, the others at 30 Hz, matching the manual (see below). So there is important differences between these ports, and even differences between the HDMI 2.0 ports.

➔ The manual (p11) shows 3 HDMI ports facing down, and 2 HDMI ports to the side. The top one to the side (port 5) would have the best specs: 4K 60Hz. I would advise to use that one for the Apple TV box.

If the Apple TV box has its settings configured for a different TV, then its current settings may be too high even for HDMI 2.0 (e.g. 4:4:4 chroma* with the other video settings also maxed out). To adjust for that, cycle the video ‘resolution’ settings using the remote button combination, until you get to a valid setting, as described here: If your Apple TV isn't working, won't turn on, or shows a black screen - Apple Support

Then you can Reset Video Settings, to let the Apple TV box adjust for what it thinks is probably optimal for detected capabilities of the currently connected screen.

(*You wouldn’t need 4:4:4 chroma with Apple TV, as all streaming video files are encoded as 4:2:0. 4:4:4 only doubles the required HDMI bandwidth, without improvement of the video.)
