Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard disconnect from iMAC

The Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard disconnect and are inoperable. Connecting a different mouse to a USB port allows actions to reconnect these two devices from the Bluetooth window. However this has become more difficult to reconnect these Bluetooth devices and now requires a MAC Restart to re-establish these connections. Why is this occurring?
