Thanks CT for your response. Cables were all fine. All's well now. I wish I could report what I did when fooling around with "Displays, Mirroring on/off, Resolutions, Extended Display, etc." but my ASUS monitor suddenly clicked in! I have no idea what sequence of events made it happen...
