How do I fix conflicting iCloud storage and backup status for WhatsApp on iPhone

My problem start when i update my iPhone and suddenly WhatsApp refuse launching . i chat with apple and WhatsApp to get my WhatsApp works but nothing reach till i come to know reason was my web WhatsApp was on and its stopping the app to come up ,

the problem later when i install the app and get the backup it was showing my available backup in iCloud is 14 NOV 2024 , i accept and get that but i was not happy losing my 3 months data . again i delete WhatsApp just to see if i can get the latest backup . but unfortunately WhatsApp says i don't have any backup . and i lost everything .

then again i did WhatsApp backup and try to see if iCloud can show to the WhatsApp that i have backup . still the same .

i try with another device as well still WhatsApp says no backup .

What i cant understand and no one answer is . when i login to my iCloud i can see my latest contents including photos , videos , files etc. but iPhone says i never backup my i phone which is not true and show the next backup is +1005.7 MB . and same time its show on attach photo there is data in iCloud .

i even try to backup earlier via iTunes and select iCloud option but its showed my i never backup to iCloud

one mobile expert told me could be the problem because i share my iCloud with family and that make your system confuse .

attached some of the screenshots hope you can locate the problem and solve my issue .

You do have a discrepancy in the screenshots you have provided. The first screenshot shows the name of the device being "iPhone" and the second screenshot shows the name of the device as "update". This could be from a previous backup or due to a previous upgrade of the phone. I have not seen a problem with support not following up with a phone call, but surely you can contact them again or schedule an appointment at an Apple Store if you have one nearby.

WhatsApp does have an issue with improperly reporting the amount of storage needed for the backup and acknowledges the bug here:

To ensure that WhatsApp works properly, make sure that your phone has storage space available. You can view how much space WhatsApp takes up on your device and free up storage by deleting items. It's possible that there might be a difference in the storage usage noted by your WhatsApp app and iPhone. This is mainly because of the difference in the way WhatsApp calculates storage vs your iPhone.

And they recommend the storage space needed should be at least 2 times than what they claim the size is:

  • Your available iCloud account and iPhone storage is at least 2.05 times bigger than the size of your backup.

Unfortunately, Meta is known for providing updates that contains bugs. That explains why there are 10 updates for WhatsApp in just the last month. They are counting on their users for being bug testers, but at the same time, limit the ability of the users to easily convey the problems they experience with them.

I have just had a related experience - I think there must be some sort of bug to do with the latest whatsapp and iCloud.

My WhatsApp started crashing on launch as soon as I updated to version 25.2.83

The only thing that stopped whatsapp crashing was disabling "synch to iCloud"

I've lost my entire whatsapp history. Also it took me three days to figure the problem out and I have no idea what messages I got during that time.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

the problem no one give you any solution . and even they give me appointment for phone call but no one call or even postpone the appointment .

the problem 1000% bug on their system and they give very generic steps then they ask you is that work with you ? no its not work with me and still i have same problem .

my problem now not WhatsApp only , because ones you tell anything about WhatsApp they start telling you go and contact them .

In my iphone .. one side said my last backup OCT 2023. And other side said never backup . which one i believe ?

and my WhatsApp when its crashed says your last backup 14 NOV 2024 .

Then when i deleted again its says you have no iCloud backup
