Replacing Watch Batteries, Is It Really Possible?

Say your battery is dying on your current Apple Watch… When you have no wish to “upgrade” to the latest Series, when you for reasons of your own don’t like the new colors, sizes, or styles that are being offered, what do you do when Apple doesn’t have the inventory to replace yours with an identical model?

I bought the Series 7 Space Black Titanium Edition. I LOVED it. Had there been a Space Black Titanium S9 or S10, I’d have probably gone for it. But I have the Space Black Stainless Steel Link Bracelet. They look good together. I’ve just had my Watch replaced in order to get a new battery. That seems wasteful.

I’ve read conflicting opinions on the subject. Either yes, they can be replaced or no, they can’t and Apple can only replace the unit.

Which is accurate? Asking for a friend…

Well you should always contact Apple Support for what to do in terms of having anything replaced on any Apple device and doing any suggested action through an official partner.

But Apple Watch batteries are in fact replaceable, but highly difficult to do without proper equipment and training. Definitely not something to be done by anyone without the proper knowledge.

I have already had a battery replaced via the proper channels. The problem was that I could not get a straight answer in the Apple Store or on the phone as to whether I could. Several times I was told that they would have to replace the entire unit, and when I tried to arrange an Express Transfer the confirmation email listed the wrong Watch. Then when I was transferred to a 2nd Supervisor, he strongly recommended that I have it mailed to Repair from the Apple Store and pick it up there as well. I purchased another Watch in case it never came back, it turns out with good reason: That confirmation listed the wrong Watch as well, this time a Silver Stainless Steel, and the automated system listed me as the owner of three Watches, not two, including a Silver Stainless Steel. A model I have never, and would never purchase. I called the store and they said that they would either put in a new battery or replace the entire unit if one was available. Or give me the next level up from my Watch if my model wasn’t available(I have Apple Care, so it was at no cost). They had no idea which would happen.

This is why I’m turning to the Forum.
