Whenever I pick up my Airpods pro 2 the make a beeping noise. I can not turn the setting : ‘enable charging case sounds’ off. The setting remains gray, that is why i can not turn it off.

After scouring the internet and trying all the other options I contacted apple support. They had me run through the standard option of turning off the phone and back on, resetting the AirPods and reconnecting and the trick that did it was:
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Service, then turn off and on
Go to Settings > Sound & Haptic > lock sound > turn off.
After that it was no longer greyed out, hope this helps.
