No one has ever had to pay Apple for Advanced Data Protection. But this simply has NOTHING to do the issue's people may be having with Facebook. This is not a political issue in any way. It is an issue with Facebook.

Apologies. My error. I automatically presumed there was a cost consequence of selecting to use it. I agree the grey box issue is highly unlikely to have anything to do with Govt. surveillance. That was what I was trying to communicate to the original author.

You're right. This is not a discussion forum, where you can write anything you want. When you joined the forum, you agreed to the Terms of Use, but you likely didn't ever read them (most don't). This is a technical support forum for people to ask for technical assistance with their devices from other users who may be able to help. This is NOT a place to share one's political views. There are plenty of forums one can join if one wants to share their political views. Quora, is a good example of one such forum.

This forum is perhaps the best moderated forum there is. While Apple doesn't participate here, they do have Moderators whose job it is to ensure posts stay on point and either amend or totally remove posts which don't adhere to the high standards Apple has set for this forum. If that to you means you are wasting your time here, you may well be right.

my iPhone 13 just started doing this yesterday or the day before. Never has happened before. I thought my comments on Facebook wouldn’t be seen was my first thought.

oh and this only happens when commenting on ppl’s posts. Very odd and kind of annoying. @apple ? What’s up with this ??

It’s not just the grey box issue for me.

I’m having problems editing I go back to re-read my posts I can’t seem to place the cursor without a lot of bother. And after I chose to share an article, when I open a browser to fact check I go back to the post and it reverts to the http address and I lose the text that I’ve written.

Also the bottom line of the post can’t be scrolled down to continue writing a long comment. It will stay beneath the text box.

it’s becoming increasingly difficult to poster or edit comments on Facebook and the gray box doesn’t help matters either.

yes and it is not triggered by any word. it is mainly triggered about the 3rd or 4th character when i am typing. happening in text/messaging apple app and in other apps where texting/commenting is common

I’m in Iowa, US, and same. It also duplicates part of a word I am trying to write, making me have to stop and delete the extra letters. When doing verbal texts, or trying to, it stops writing after one, maybe two, sentences. I’ve about had it!

As if FB big brother is watching, listening, reading, deciphering, spying etc… on us!

If you think that is what is happening then why are you still using Facebook?

You do realize that if a company was spying on you, they would make this behavior transparent to their users right? Why would they advertise nefarious behavior?

Same here seems like a couple of weeks - a gray overlay box appears as I start to type my Facebook reply.

Had anyone seen or heard any helpful info on this? Will need to figure out an inquiry to FM meta

There have been several answers, if you bothered to read through any of the 8 pages of this thread, you will find some of them.

You most likely weren't hacked, but what does that have to do with a glitch in Facebook's app?

Dear JLLtoo........maybe read the thread, which if you had, you'd learn this is a Facebook issue and Apple doesn't own Facebook, so asking Apple to fix the issue with Facebook's app, will get you nothing. And this is a user to user only forum, so you aren't writing anyone from Apple anyway.

This grey box issue needs sorting , how can you type a post when what you’ve written is covered up , you can’t amend or see what predict has put in ( as it does !) It’s so very annoying , anyone know a fix ? I thought it was just FB but it did it on WhatsApp today too 😡
