eMail account settings don't backup. Data downloaded for some apps doesn't back up - I use a mapping app and downloaded tiles don't load onto a new phone. If you don't encrypt the backups then account and app passwords aren't backed up. Banking apps will load but you'll have to set them up again probably with a card reader (in the UK).

HOWEVER … the process is the same to replace a phone should yours be lost, damaged, or stolen. So in the spirit of being prepared

Apple’s setup is really VERY good. If you simply use the iOS “defaults” - and keep your phone regularly charging on WiFi (to enable Automatic iCloud Backups) - all of your data will be either “backed-up” and/or “sync’d” to iCloud.

A replacement - or upgraded - phone will build itself into a near-clone of your prior phone. Even the screen icon arrangement is maintained.

It’s actually quite remarkable.

You WILL have to setup your Biometrics again as they are NEVER exported from ANY device; and you’ll need to re-verify any banking cards in your wallet.

But that’s really about it.

also bluetooth connections?? passwords??

If you get a new iPhone, you will need to pair Bluetooth devices to the new phone as that does come over in the transfer process. You'll need to know how to put any bluetooth devices you own into pairing mode per the manufacturers pairing instructions. Some passwords may need to be entered again, especially for some third party applications, but if you are syncing your passwords in iCloud, you'll be able to access them on the new phone from the Passwords app.
