Hey there!
While the Apple Thunderbolt Display is compatible with your new MacBook Air with the M4 chip, you will need a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple to connect it.
Hope this helps!

Verify that this is a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display (with a two-headed hydra cable); not a similar 27" LED Cinema Display (with a three-headed hydra cable).
The two look similar, but require different types of input signals, and thus different adapters.
The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 cable does not transmit power, and the older generation MagSafe connector on that TB Display will likely be incompatible with the MagSafe port on the M4 MacBook Air. Thus, you will need to use the charger and MagSafe 3 cable that came with your M4 MacBook Air.
Thunderbolt Display (two-headed cable).
