All of a sudden when I opened "mail" on my iPhone it now has Primary, Transactions,Updates, Promotions columns. I don't like looking through these subjects. I want it returned back the way it has been for years.

But how do you get rid of all the icons next to the emails? I don't need all that in my email box
The red icon next to your mail app shows unread emails. It's a useful indicator to show you when you have new mail. To remove the red icon just mark al of your emails as read.
That's not my issue. I am talking about all these icons next to the emails. I have turned off categories.
