Why won't my iPad import photos from my camera?

I have an Ipad Pro 2022 and i’m trying to import photos from my camera onto the ipad. I have an SD adaptor that plugs into the ipad. When I try to import the photos the SD card appears but once i try to do anything it just disappears and says it’s disconnected. It’s not a problem with the SD card or adaptor as i tried it on my iphone and it works fine.Someone help please as this is the whole reason I bought the ipad for lol
