Text messages on 2015 Chevy Equinox MyLink

Until about 2 or 3 years ago, I used to be able to get text messages on the MyLink screen on my 2015 Chevy Equinox, when my iPhone was connected via BlueTooth. In BlueTooth, I have the option to enable notifications turned on. About 2 or 3 years ago, this stopped working. At the time, I was using an iPhone SE, and thought maybe it had something to do with the phone. But now I have the same problem with a brand new iPhone 16. Did an iOS update a few years ago break this feature, with no way to fix it? Or am I doing something wrong? Thank you.

Only the 2018 - 2024 Equinox supports Apple Car Play. We have a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, and there is nothing it its manual about receiving text messages. It can Bluetooth pair with a phone, add the phone contact list, and voice dial , or take incoming calls. That is it. Not one word about receiving text messages.

The 2015 Traverse is a higher product line than the same year Equinox, and it is unlikely that GM used a different radio in the same year Equinox. The GM Phone documentation for either vehicle is essentially the same. Neither of these 2015 vehicles document anything other than phone voice services or requesting a call be made from any integrated contacts list.

You can review the 2015 Equinox owners manual here.

If by some miracle you were receiving text messages on your Equinox, the possibility is excluded from the GM documentation.

If CarPlay doesn't detect your iPhone, make sure CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions are turned on, tap Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, and then tap Forget This Car.

If you're still having trouble with your car's audio system using CarPlay or Bluetooth, try the Aux cable. To get it fixed, there are two options:

  1. Take your car to a reputable car dealer or car audio specialist. They have experienced technicians who can diagnose the problem with the Aux cable. This could be a loose connection, a faulty cable itself, or an issue with the system's Aux port. They'll be able to repair the issue or recommend a replacement cable if needed.
  2. Consult your car's infotainment system manuals. These manuals often include troubleshooting sections that might address common Aux cable problems. You might find instructions for resetting the system, cleaning the Aux port, or confirming the cable's compatibility.

Before taking your car to a dealer, it's always a good idea to check the manuals first. This can sometimes save you time and money if it's a simple fix you can handle yourself. However, if the manuals don't offer a solution, or you're uncomfortable tinkering with the system, then a car audio specialist is the way to go.
