How can I stop messages from syncing to my MacBook?

On my MacBook, Settings > iCloud > Messages sync is off. But when I receive a message on my phone, it continues to come to my MacBook. How do I turn this off? (I don't want to turn it off directly from notifications. I don't want to receive messages.)

Turn off message forwarding on your iPhone:
