What to do when HP LaserJet Pro M26a Drivers won't install on my MacBook Air?

Hi, does anyone have any experience with drivers for HP printers? I downloaded HP Easy Start and then tried to install drivers via app. I got as far as confirming installation and wanting to switch to HP drivers, but then it always says 'drivers not installed'. I've downloaded HP Easy Start again and then tried to install drivers via app, but I keep getting message saying 'drivers not installed'.

I just need USB printer, I'm not printing so much, so I don't want to buy new printer.

At least according to the HP download page at https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m25-m27-series/model/9365413, support for macOS 15 has been added to HP Easy Start. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26a is a USB-only printer, and would have to be connected (via a Mac computer) to the Internet during setup.

There is an HP Easy Admin tool for Mac that allows administrators to download drivers without a connected printer:

If HP Easy Start (or possibly an HP Smart for Desktop app) cannot be used, you could perhaps check whether HP Easy Admin would change anything. It may or may not work.

As always, before any tests, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files.

I believe the issue is that HP has not updated either their printer drivers or HP Easy Start app to be compatible with macOS Sequoia. AFAIK, it is only supported up to macOS Sonoma.

Although this won't help you with this situation, you may want to consider upgrading to a printer that also supports Apple's AirPrint. With AirPrint, you don't need to install printer drivers at all.
