Why are notifications delayed until I open the Messages app?

My iPhone is not receiving notifications until I get into the app

Notifications oh iPhone 11 no longer working for messages I have the settings to always show notifications but I don’t receive any for messages I receive. I get the red badge, but I have to look it doesn’t pop up if I’m using my phone or it’s sitting idle. I’m on iOS 16.5.1 so that’s not the issue. Please help!! ! I hate not getting notifications!!

No Notifications on IPhone 12 I have stopped receiving notifications on all of my apps (messenger, WhatsApp, News etc etc on my IPhone 12. The software has been updated to the latest version and all apps are set up to receive notifications as they always have been. I’ve switched phone off and on several times and double checked all settings and everything appears to be as it should be. It’s been like this for a few weeks now and is causing issues with not getting any messages until I open the various apps to see if I have any notifications, not ideal for urgent matters or even everyday chats etc. I don’t know what else I can do? Can someone offer any help or advice please? I’m guessing it’s a software problem? Thank you

Make sure 'Background App Refresh' is on in Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
