How to fix 'Not enough space on WDMYCLOUD.local' for MacBook Air backup?

I keep getting a message that my backup was not completed because there isn't enough space on WDMYCLOUD.local. What can I do?

Even if you use TimeMachine to back up your Mac to an external drive, some free space is needed on your internal drive.

This message’eans your internal hard driveon your Mac is nearly full, so try to make some space there

One tip: move your photolibrary to an external drive: this can save a lot of space.

Also: check your dowloads if there are big files you can remove or delete
