How do I prevent tabs from disappearing when closing Safari on Mac?

When I press the red X on my MacBook when on safari why when I go back onto safari all my tabs and gone and have to search again? I’ve changed the setting.. safari opens with all windows from last session. How can I get all my tabs to stay when leaving safari?

Hello Oliviajan,

Do not use the red "x" icon to close Safari. As you noticed, it will clear all open tabs.

Instead, quit Safari by clicking Safari > Quit Safari in the menubar; or by clicking the Safari icon in the Dock and choosing Quit; or by using the keyboard shortcut command + Q.
