does apple require you to reset your password

I have gotten an email and a text from what looks like Apple - saying I have until tomorrow to rest my password. Is this legit?

apple account password reset. ive had an iphone for majority of my life, but only today have i gotten a message from “81961” saying i have one day left to reset my apple account password. i haven’t seen a message in the past for this, and now i have one day to do it. i’m a little suspicious so im just wondering if this is actually apple + if i actually need to? my password isn’t easy to guess at all and has never (to my knowledge) been in a breach. is this a regular thing now?

This is most likely a scam. Apple does not force you to change your password.
