Simple tool for editing screenshots

I have the following usecase: I want to take a screenshot, mark some text on it and send it by email. I use Outlook and not apple mail.

I'm looking for a free tool.

Thanks!

I have set my screenshots to open directly in Preview (command-shift-5, Option->Save To: Preview)

In Preview, I add text, and other markup covering stuff, arrows, circles, whatever, in Preview.

3) I save or share the document. I don't use Outlook, but if it implements the proper mechanism, you may be able to share directly from Preview; if not, then just save and drag the file to Outlook.

I also have Command-Shift-5 options set so the screenshot is saved to Preview.

Then I use Preview-> Tools-> Annotate to crop, add text, boxes, arrows, etc… to my screenshots.

Once I have it marked up the way I want, I use Command-A to select the screenshot, Command-C to copy to the Clipboard, then Command-C to paste it into the app where I need the marked up image.

The Select, Copy, Paste works for most apps.

After I paste my marked up screenshot, I generally close the Preview window, and choose to delete the screenshot, as I do not generally need that marked up image again.

I do this several times a day, and in a given week, I might do 20-40 such marked up screenshots. Once you get into it, you learn some keyboard shortcuts that make it even faster.

This forum has a lot of my marked up screenshots 😁
